HIGHLIGHTS ON GLOBAL HUNGER AND THE POTENT SOLUTION OF AGRICULTURE IN AFRICA

The continued gradual increase in the number of hungry people in most regions of the world is alarming. According to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World, the number of hungry people in the world increased from 777 million in 2015 to 815 million in 2016.

As more people go hungry and malnutrition persists, achieving Zero Hunger by 2030 becomes questionable.

The future of food in the world however depends on what Africa does with agriculture. Africa holds 65% of the uncultivated arable land left to feed 9 billion by 2050.

The challenge therefore requires focused and compassionate leadership. We owe it as a responsibility to ourselves, and for generations to come, to use every opportunity at our disposal to make the world a better place.
